Using strategic governance and integration approach to merge multiple healthcare providers and develop a unified operational framework.

"The holistic approach and well thought out governance were exactly what we needed to handle the complexities of merging multiple organisations. It enabled us to move systems and processes seamlessly. This isn't just a solution for today; it's a blueprint for future success."

Mergers & Acquisitions

The Brief:

Connect Health, a leading UK provider of community musculoskeletal services, acquired nordstar* to develop a growth strategy involving the acquisition of several healthcare providers. We aimed to integrate these entities into its operational framework while maintaining high-quality patient care and minimising disruptions. The key objectives required assessing capabilities, aligning systems and processes for a unified framework, establishing a consistent governance structure for future acquisitions, and mitigating risks to patient care and ensuring compliance.

Response & Delivery:

To address integration challenges, we implemented a strategy focused on capability asessment, governance design, and system alignment. Detailed evaluations of each acquired provider's capabilities helped identify process synergies, while input from staff and stakeholders guided improvements. A governance framework was created to balance due diligence with agility, defining roles and providing standardised templates for risk assessment and compliance checks. A "best-of-breed" approach was used for tools and workflows, implementing a phased migration plan to prioritise critical systems. Temporary hybrid models and real-time monitoring ensured continuity of care during the transition, supported by comprehensive staff training.

The Impact:

Nordstar's approach enabled seamless integration of acquired entities without comprising patient care or compliance, achieving a unified operational framework by aligning systems, processes, and workflows. The governance framework became central to the acquisition strategy, supporting efficient future integrations while maintaining high service standards. Proactive engagement with staff and stakeholders ensured cultural alignment and accelerated the process, whilst the structured approach to mergers demonstrates how strategic planning and a patient-first focus drives successful integration.
